- To strengthen the STEM learning
community by expanding our educational partnership among Rutgers
University and nearby school districts, linked together through
partner teams, common workshops, regular meetings, and appropriate
Internet technologies.
- To provide STEM graduate and advanced
undergraduate students an opportunity to enhance their teaching and
communication skills, and to expose them to the issues, culture, and
excitement of K-12 education, so that no matter which career path
they select, the groundwork will be established for their continued
involvement in K-12 education.
- To strengthen the mathematics and
science backgrounds of middle school/junior high school teachers
through collaborations with Rutgers graduate and advanced
undergraduate STEM students, enabling participants to infuse
up-to-date information about, and the excitement of, these areas into
their classrooms.
- To help middle school/junior high
school students become excited about science, engineering, and
mathematics, so that they will begin to consider careers in these
disciplines.
- To build a professional development
infrastructure that will allow Fellows to serve as resources for all
teachers within their district, and eventually for middle schools
around the state through the Rutgers Science Explorer Bus Program.
- To broaden graduate programs in STEM
at the University to include GK-12 activities.
- To disseminate the curriculum
materials developed in conjunction with this GK12 program, as well as
the model that is established for school district-University
partnerships throughout the state of New Jersey.
- To provide a strong base for
continuing involvement of graduate Fellows in K-12 schools after the
conclusion of the funding period by integrating GK12 and other
outreach activities at the University.
