Information for Graduate Students

This program is open to Rutgers University graduate students in all programs in science, mathematics, engineering and technology. Fellowships will be in the amount of $30,000 plus tuition. Fellows must agree to participate in all program activities for the K12 school year.

Application Procedures:

  • complete application packet including academic transcripts and a summary of the applicant's STEM experience.
  • academic advisor or graduate program director must provide a support letter acknowledging student's anticipated participation in this program.
  • interview with a member of the program advisory committee.

    Applications will be due on April 16, 2008 (pdf application file).  Interviews will be conducted during April and applicants will be notified about May 16, 2008

Graduate Students are awarded:

  • year long fellowship of $30,000.
  • tuition remission.
  • standard mileage reimbursement for travel to schools.

Eligibility Guidelines:

  • open to both graduate and advanced undergraduate STEM students.
  • graduate students must be enrolled in STEM programs. Preference will be given to those who have advanced to candidacy.
  • advanced undergraduate STEM majors who have demonstrated a strong proficiency in mathematics and science.
  • fellows must be citizens, nationals or permanent residents of the United States at the time of application.

Conditions of Award. Fellows are expected to engage in all program activities including:

  • Welcoming Convocation.
  • Two (2) week Summer Institute (July 10-21, 2006) to begin working collaboratively with team members.
  • 15 hours each week during the K12 school year (Sept. 1, 2006-June 30, 2007):
  • weekly meetings and workshops (required).
  • four Saturday planning sessions
  • jointly present results at a professional conference.

This program is funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation Program "Graduate Teaching Fellows in K-12 Education."
