Information for Teachers

This program will be accepting applications from middle school teachers in local districts for academic year 2006-2007.  The program will begin with a Summer Institute in July, 2006. Teachers will receive a stipend for the Summer Institute and academic year participation.

Application Procedures

Each middle school develops and submits one or more proposals consisting of:

  • names and grades of the team teachers
  • name and position of the school administrator(s) team member(s)
  • role definitions for Rutgers graduate and advanced undergraduate STEM fellows
  • topics of focus
  • desired outcomes
  • analysis of how the proposed plan fits the curricular goals of the school district

Teachers are awarded:

  • $600 stipend for full participation in the 2 week summer Institute.
  • monthly academic year stipend of $100/month for 10 months.
  • $1000 per team per year in consumable classroom science supplies and mathematics manipulatives for use by teams in their schools.
  • standard mileage reimbursement for travel to the University.

Conditions of Award.  Teachers are expected to engage in all program activities including:

  • Welcoming Convocation.
  • two (2) week summer Institute to begin working collaboratively with team members.
  • planning 10 hours each week during the K12 school year for the fellows to be in their classrooms
  • attend four Saturday planning sessions
  • jointly present results at a professional conference.

This program is funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation Program "Graduate Teaching Fellows in K-12 Education."
