Introduction

General Biology 119:101-102 is a two semester course designed for students intending to major in Pharmacy or one of the Life Sciences, or who intend to enter one of the Health Professions. Each four credit course includes a lecture and laboratory. This course is not recommended for liberal arts majors who must fulfill distribution requirements. The Division of Life Sciences provides a number of non-majors courses for students who need them to fulfill distribution requirements. General Biology 101 is given only in the Fall Semester. This course assumes you have had high school biology and chemistry. In order to register for General Biology 101 you must have placed into English 101 and Math 111 or higher. General Biology 101 basically covers cell biology, plant biology and genetics; a complete syllabus for General Biology 101 and General Biology 102 is available on this web site. General Biology 101 must be completed with a grade of "D" or higher before you can register for General Biology 102. General Biology 102 is offered only in the Spring Semester and covers animal diversity, animal structure and function, and ecology and evolution.
